Sea Freight Forwarding (Import & Export)

Sea Freight Forwarding (Import & Export)

For large cargo shipments, sea freight remains the most cost-effective solution

Sea freight forwarding is the process of organizing and managing the international transport of cargo by sea. This includes coordination of several processes such as container booking, cargo handling, documentation, customs clearance, and more.

ICPI provides professional sea freight forwarding services, from FCL and LCL shipping to specialized cargo handling. We oversee the entire process from pick-up to delivery—ensuring efficient and compliant sea freight operations for both import and export.

ICPI’s Sea Freight Services – International & Domestic

Full Container Load (FCL) Shipping

FCL or Full Container Load shipping provides shippers with exclusive use of a single container, offering greater security and faster transit times. It is ideal for businesses moving high-volume cargo, typically 15 cbm or higher – or any cargo that requires exclusive use of a container.

ICPI handles various FCL shipping methods, including:

  • Dry Containers (20FT or 40FT) – For general, non-DG cargo and palletized goods
  • Open Top Containers (In-Gauge) – For large cargo loaded via crane or overhead equipment, to be fully secured with rigging and lashing procedures
  • Open Top Containers (Out-of-Gauge) – For oversized cargo loaded via crane or overhead equipment, exceeding the container’s overhead dimensions, to be fully secured with rigging and lashing with use of low beds for trucking
  • High Cube Containers (Standard or Open Top) – For tall cargo exceeding dry container dimensions
  • Flat Rack Containers – For irregular cargo exceeding container’s dimensions (width or height)
  • Consult with us to inquire about other available container types.

Our team handles container booking, cargo management, documentation and more from origin to destination.

Less-than-Container Load (LCL) Shipping

LCL Shipping is a shipping method wherein less-than-container load cargo (typically 15 cbm or less) is consolidated with other shipments (from other shippers) in a single container headed to the same destination.

ICPI offers direct cargo consolidation at major ports, including:

  • Import
    • Kaohsiung, Keelung, Taichung
    • Shanghai, Qingdao, Shenzhen, Ningbo, Tianjin
    • Hong Kong
    • Port Kelang
    • Singapore
    • Busan
  • Export
    • Singapore
    • Busan
  • Consult with us to inquire about other ports.

These ocean ports may be transshipment hubs to/from other ports in Europe, North America, Australia, and more. Inquire with ICPI today to get your optimized shipping route.

Specialized Cargo Handling

Specialized cargo handling refers to the transportation of goods with unique handling procedures due to their size, weight, fragility, or hazardous nature. This includes cargo such as oversized industrial machinery, temperature-sensitive goods, or dangerous chemicals.

ICPI offers specialized cargo handling solutions, such as:

  • Break Bulk Cargo Handling
    • What it is: Cargo too large, heavy, or irregularly shaped to be containerized.
    • Handling: Lifted directly onto vessel, secured with lashings and dunnage.
  • Out-of-Gauge (OOG) Cargo
    • What it is: Cargo shipped in container, but exceeds standard dimensions.
    • Handling: Typically transported using flat rack or open-top containers.
  • Dangerous Goods (DG)
    • What it is: Regulated hazardous or flammable cargo.
    • Handling: Subject to carrier and port approval.
  • Heavy-Lift Cargo
    • What it is: Single cargo pieces that exceed standard weight limits (e.g., more than 30 tons).
    • Handling: Requires specialized lifting equipment (cranes, forklifts), reinforced vessels, route surveys, and often permits.
  • Consult with us to inquire about other specialized cargo solutions.

This type of shipping is essential when your cargo doesn’t fit standard container specs, requires special equipment, or needs special permits and handling. Our Project Cargo Team can advise you on proper routing, equipment, documentation, and planning to keep your cargo shipment as efficient and secure as possible.
